How the AussieVitals Score works
Multiple checks across four categories. One score out of 100. Here's what we check, how we score it, and why it matters.
What makes this different from PageSpeed
Google PageSpeed Insights tells you how fast your site loads. That's one dimension. AussieVitals checks four dimensions that affect whether your website is helping or hurting your business:
| PageSpeed Insights | AussieVitals | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed & performance | Yes | Yes |
| SEO foundations | No | Yes |
| Security & trust signals | No | Yes |
| Mobile experience | Partial | Yes |
| Australian benchmark | No | Yes |
| Plain-English explanations | No | Yes |
| Fix difficulty ratings | No | Yes |
Scoring breakdown
Your AussieVitals Score is the sum of four category scores, each weighted by business impact. Points are awarded based on objective, measurable checks — not subjective opinions.
Speed & Performance
How fast your site loads and how smoothly it renders. Based on Google's Core Web Vitals — the same metrics Google uses to rank sites. We check load times, visual stability, and responsiveness to user input.
SEO Foundations
The basics Google needs to understand and rank your site. Title tags, meta descriptions, heading structure, image alt text, sitemaps, and more. Most Australian SMB websites fail at least 3 of these checks.
Security & Trust
The signals that make visitors and Google trust your business. SSL certificates, contact details, about pages, privacy policies, and social proof. Missing these costs you conversions.
Mobile Experience
Over 60% of Australian web traffic is mobile. We check mobile-specific performance, tap target sizing, font legibility, and layout stability. A bad mobile experience loses the majority of your visitors.
What your score means
Your website is in great shape. You're ahead of most Australian businesses. Focus on refinements.
Solid foundation with a few gaps. Fixing these would give you a real edge over competitors.
Meaningful issues are holding your site back. Visitors and Google are both noticing.
Significant problems. Your website is likely losing you customers right now.
Your website needs urgent attention. Core functionality is impaired.
Data sources and methodology
AussieVitals uses two data sources for every check:
- Google PageSpeed Insights API — the same engine behind Lighthouse and Chrome DevTools. Provides Core Web Vitals, performance scores, and mobile usability data.
- Direct HTTP fetch — we request your homepage and parse the HTML for title tags, meta descriptions, headings, links, SSL status, and trust signals.
No paid tools, no proprietary crawlers, no data we can't explain. Every check maps to a publicly documented standard (Core Web Vitals thresholds, SEO best practices, HTTPS requirements).
Scoring weights reflect business impact, not technical severity. Checks that directly drive visitors away (like missing SSL) are weighted more heavily than checks that affect discoverability (like missing sitemaps).
